One of the major activities of Board is to develop skilled man power for the coir Industry. As early as 1965 a premier training Institute under the Coir Board viz. National Coir Training and Design Centre was established at Alleppey. The National Coir Training and Design Centre moved into its own building in 1986. The objectives of the National Coir Training and Design Centre are development of trained manpower and evolving and popularising new designs and patterns for coir products. With this objectives in view, the following regular training programmes are being conducted.

Training Course 2.Artisans
training Course 3.Training in spinning on motorised ratt under Mahila Coir Yojana. 4.Training in spinning on motorised traditional
ratt under Mahila Coir Yojana. 5.Short
term training in composting coir pith and treatment of Coirret. 6.Trainers
Training Programme in spinning coir yarn on motorised ratts and motorised
traditional ratts.
The advanced training course
is intended for middle level executives sponsored by small-scale manufacturers
registered with Coir Board/Coir Co-Operative societies/Government departments.
The minimum qualification for admission to this course is a pass in
Plus-Two or equivalent. 50% seats is reserved for candidates from brown fibre
sector. The Artisans training course
is meant for actual coir workers already engaged in coir units.
Two batches of Artisans were trained every year The training under Mahila
Coir Yojana is intended for giving 2 months training in spinning coir
yarn on motorised ratt and 1 week training in spinning coir
yarn on motorised traditional ratt to women. The
training is conducted at the Training Center as well as in the Field Training
Centres set up in association with NGOs/Co-Operative Societies in rural areas. The short term training in composting coir pith and treatment of Coirret is to educate entrepreneurs in the
use of Coirret in converting mechanically extracted green husk fibre
into white fibre and recycling of the liquor and production of Coir Pith Organic
Manure(C-POM) using Pithplus. The trainers training
program is intended to train the trainers to be engaged in the field training
centres for imparting training in spinning coir yarn on motorised ratt/ motorised
traditional ratt to rural women. In addition to the training
programs, NCT & DC also organise distribution of Motorised Ratt to the
beneficiaries of Mahila Coir Yojana, conducting practical test in spinning coir
yarn on motorised ratt in the field
units.

Besides
short term training course on weaving mats, dyeing coir and weaving matting on
semi automatic loom are also being conducted as and when required by the
entrepreneurs, NGO's and coir co-operative societies etc. Also field
training programmes are being conducted in spinning coir yarn and the
manufacture of frame mats and dyeing of coir |
