The Central scheme of Co-Operativisation in coir Industry was introduced in 1982 on the basis of the recommendations of a high powered committee appointed by the planning Commission under the chairmanship of Shri.B.Sivaraman.

  The Ashim Chattergee committee appointed by the Govt.of India in 1990 has recommended the constitution  of the scheme during the 18th plan period on selective basis to those societies who will become viable and self sufficient during the 18 th plan period. Accordingly the Ministry vide Lr..No.5(13) 89-coir dated 15th march 1993 has selected and revised the scheme of Co-operativisation for implementation till the end of the 18th plan period in i.e. up to March 1997.

Proposal for continuing the co-operativisation scheme during the IX Five Year Plan period is under consideration of Government of India.
